Caroll Neubauer

Caroll Neubauer is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of B. Braun of America and B. Braun Medical Inc. (B. Braun), a global leader in infusion therapy and pain management and a pioneer in passive safety devices and PVC-free and DEHP-free products in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, USA. In this role, Mr. Neubauer oversees the company’s North American operations. He also serves on the B. Braun Global Board in Germany.

• The Welcome Reception is a great way to start off the conference!  I want to connect early with people and get into the mix of the conference from the beginning.
• The Plenary Session with Katie Couric is a must see. She has a personal connection to our industry and I’m excited to hear what she has to say.
• The The Impact of Healthcare Reform on Medical Technology Companies and our Customers is a can’t-miss session! Learning how reform will affect my customers is going to be critical.
• I plan on attending the Pulse of the Industry: Medical Technology Report 2010 to learn where the industry is and where it’s going. This session is filled with industry CEOs and I learned from last year to arrive early as this room tends to fill up!
• The CEOs Unplugged Session with Jim Mazzo, Mike Mussallem, and Steve Ubl is going to be terrific and insightful. Jim, Mike, and Steve know more about the healthcare reform debate than anyone else I know.

Tim Ring

Tim Ring is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer for C. R. Bard, Inc., a leading multinational developer, manufacturer, and marketer of innovative, life-enhancing medical technologies in the fields of Vascular, Urology, Oncology, and Surgical Specialty products. Tim is a trustee for the Foundation of The University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey and the HealthCare Institute of New Jersey, and serves on the Cornell University Life Sciences Advisory Board. Mr. Ring is also a member of the Board of Directors of AdvaMed and the National Association of Manufacturers.

• The Plenary Session with Secretary Gary Locke is on my list to see. President Obama has emphasized the importance of American exports and has said that they will double over the next 5 years. I’m eager to hear Commerce Secretary Locke’s address.
• Together with my business development team, we’re excited to take advantage of MedTech Partnering and Company Presentations. We’re looking forward to meeting with new companies and learning about new technologies.
• Both panels in the Reimbursement Track organized by InHealth are of great interest to me. One is Beyond Comparative Effectiveness and the other is Research, Reimbursement and the New Value Equation.
• Now that healthcare reform legislation has been enacted, I can’t think of a more important session to attend than The Impact of Healthcare Reform on Medical Technology Companies and our Customers.
• The Golden Age of Innovation: Behind or Ahead of Us? has an incredible list of insightful panel speakers. Our business is all about innovation and this is a session I will definitely attend!

Olivier Jarry

Olivier Jarry is Chief Operating Officer for Bayer Diabetes Care. Olivier assumed this role in July 2009. Olivier joined Bayer from Novartis where his career spanned eight years and during which time he developed an extensive and diverse international and functional background – including profit and loss (P&L) responsibility in each of the four major regions of the world. He was most recently Head of Novartis' Vaccine division in Western/Eastern Europe, Russia, CIS where he led the division to tremendous growth.

• I look forward to hearing Dr. Margaret Hamburg's thoughts in her Plenary Session about the future of device regulations.
• Innovation is explicitly declared as the foundation for competitiveness and growth, and thus the future success of our company. I would like to hear others' thoughts in The Golden Age of Innovation: Behind or Ahead of Us? in the 21^st Century Healthcare track.
• Market Access Challenges for Device and Diagnostic Companies: Adaptive Approaches for Value Characterization – Payers are embracing a broader view of the costs and risks of managing diseases. Device companies must become their allies in monitoring patients' state and facilitating better decisions for improved outcomes.
• With the recent legislative and regulatory changes in the U.S., hearing the panelists discuss best practices on Bringing Medical Devices to the U.S. Market should be thought provoking.
• Health Care Payment and Delivery Reform: Challenges and Opportunities for Medical Technology – In chronic diseases, such as diabetes, medical technology has a major role to play to drive better outcomes for patients and reduce overall care costs. Payers should take a holistic view giving a higher value to monitoring and prevention.
• Research, Reimbursement and the New Value Equation – My team and I look forward to hearing the panelists discuss ongoing research which can help shape reimbursement policies that recognize the value of medical device technology and their role in reducing healthcare costs.

Julie Shimer

Julie Shimer, Ph.D., is chief executive officer and president of Welch Allyn, a privately-held, manufacturer of frontline medical equipment and diagnostic solutions headquartered in Skaneateles Falls, New York. Shimer joined the Welch Allyn family in 2002 as a member of the board of directors, bringing with her over 20 years of leadership experience in the computer networking and wireless communications industries.

Shimer’s business expertise and exceptional grasp of technology proved to be an invaluable asset to the company, earning her the title of president and CEO in 2007 – becoming the first woman to hold this post in the 95-year history of the company.

• The Capitol Hill Reception is an opportunity to connect with federal legislators on issues that are important to Welch Allyn, and to understand their perspective on where the mid-term elections, this legislative Session and the next Session are likely to go.
• Pulse of the Industry: Medical Technology Report 2010. The session provides a high level summary of the key performance indicators and trends affecting the medical technology industry. It is a "must attend" event!
• Issues and Challenges Using Mobile Interfaces for Medical Device Applications will provide a forum to discuss the toughest issues facing companies like Welch Allyn which are looking at or participating in the mHealth space.
• Future of the 510(k) Review Process focuses on a key area that Welch Allyn is tracking. Having the opportunity to hear the FDA and Hill speakers' views on proposed changes and timing will be invaluable.
• Health Care Payment and Delivery Reform: Challenges and Opportunities for Medical Technology focuses on another key area for Welch Allyn. How will customers be paid in the future and how will these reforms change our business model? Health care reform is game changing for our industry, and payment reform is a key element that will be used to drive change.
