Washington, D.C. (July 7, 2010) AdvaMed 2010 is proud to announce three world-reknown plenary speakers will address the MedTech Conference, October 18-20, 2010 in Washington, D.C.. Confirmed plenary speakers include U.S. Food and Drug Administration Commissioner, Dr. Margaret Hamburg; U.S. Secretary of Commerce, The Honorable Gary Locke; and CBS Evening News anchor, Katie Couric.
Dr. Margaret Hamburg is the Commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and is a nationally and internationally recognized leader in public health and medicine. She is also an authority on global health, public health systems, infectious disease, bioterrorism and emergency preparedness. Previously, she has served as the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; the Commissioner of Health for the City of New York; and the Assistant Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases of the National Institutes of Health.
The Honorable Gary Locke is the U.S. Secretary of Commerce charged with helping implement President Obama's ambitious agenda to turn around the economy and put people back to work. Locke is the first Chinese-American to hold this post in a president's cabinet. Prior to his appointment, he worked in the private sector where he specialized in helping U.S. businesses enter international markets. He also served as the Governor of Washington for two terms during which he launched the Washington Competitiveness Council and focused on job creation.
Katie Couric is the anchor and managing editor of the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric and a 60 Minutes correspondent and anchor of CBS News primetime specials. Well known for her accomplished career in journalism, Couric is also recognized as one of the leading spokeswomen for colon cancer awareness after losing her husband, Jay Monahan, to colon cancer in 1998. In 2000, Couric launched the National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance in association with the Entertainment Industry Foundation to fund new medical research in colorectal cancer.
In addition to these three dynamic plenary speakers there will be a special CEO's "Unplugged" series, 38 educational panels with more than 160 industry expert panelists, 60 innovative company presentations, and 90 exhibiting companies. Registration is now open, and the call for company presentations deadline is July 16, 2010.
